IMPROVED PUBLIC SPACES
The site acts as a bookend to Avebury Boulevard, and a key but underused link between the city centre and Campbell Park. There is an opportunity to improve the experience of people using and passing the site, with activity at street level, new landscaping, and creating a great new public space.
AN ACTIVE STREET
The entrance to the leisure space and shared amenity space for the residents would be at ground level, with double-height windows. This would be active, well lit, safe, and inviting. The image below represents an initial idea of what the building could look like from the street.
GATEWAY TO CAMPBELL PARK
The site is the gateway between Campbell Park and the city centre. Using the level changes leading to the underpass beneath Avebury Boulevard provides an opportunity to create a seating area – a place for people to stop and enjoy rather than just passing through.
New planting and greenery would help draw the feel of Campbell Park into the city, with signage and wayfinding to direct people through to the park.
There is an opportunity for the landscape to include public art – a feature of all of Milton Keynes's best public spaces.
